Model comparison

Compare the DXR-8 family by screen, audio and kit

The three current Infant Optics systems share a dedicated parent unit and direct local camera link, but they serve different routines. The differences that matter most are not the version suffixes: they are the screen, what the reviewed box includes, the number of views and sounds available at once, and the exact manual's runtime statements.

DXR-8: smaller screen and camera scan

The original DXR-8's 3.5-inch 320 × 240 parent display is smaller and lower-resolution than either PRO screen. It has remote pan and tilt, interchangeable optical lens options and sequential camera scan. The standard kit includes one camera and a zoom lens. It is the least elaborate fit here if a smaller screen and one-view-at-a-time checking are acceptable. Its manual states six hours screen-on and ten hours standby, but those are manufacturer figures, not independent testing.

DXR-8 PRO: ANR on a five-inch screen

The PRO has a 5-inch 1280 × 720 display, one included camera with the optical zoom lens, and active noise reduction intended for repetitive steady droning sounds. The manual cautions that some digital non-repeating sound-machine patterns may distort. It remains a single-view system. Its manual states the same six-hour screen-on and ten-hour standby durations as the original; it does not provide simultaneous two-room audio.

DXR-8 PRO SS: simultaneous two-room operation

The full PRO SS kit adds a second camera and split-screen viewing. Its manual also documents selectable dual audio, so both rooms can be heard at once. It keeps the five-inch 1280 × 720 display and ANR, but a split picture makes each room's image smaller. The exact SS manual and product listing do not publish a screen-on runtime. Treat that as unknown rather than assigning the PRO figure to it.

Choose by the constraint you cannot compromise

If a large HD receiver with ANR is the goal for one room, the PRO is the direct fit. If simultaneous picture and sound from two rooms matter, the PRO SS is the materially different kit. If the smaller original screen is adequate and sequential checks work for you, the DXR-8 remains a distinct option. None provides remote phone viewing away from home; all rely on a local radio path that must be checked in the intended rooms.

A monitor is one part of the routine.
