A useful fit for

A household that wants one camera, a dedicated touchscreen receiver, local camera-to-screen viewing and optional phone access away from home.

The main tradeoff

The exact retail kit includes one camera. App access needs a 2.4 GHz router, internet, a supported phone/tablet and at least 1.5 Mbps upload per camera. Cameras need supplied AC power; the parent battery claim is conditional. The guide does not confirm split-view simultaneous room audio or concurrent two-room app video.

Your needs, this model

Does it fit your priorities?

Can one local camera and its touchscreen parent display cover the room you need to watch?

This exact U.S. retail SKU is the single-camera package. Its local parent-unit path is separate from the Wi-Fi app path and does not require router setup.

Do you need phone viewing away from home, and can the camera stay on Wi-Fi?

The separate app setup uses 2.4 GHz Wi-Fi and internet, a compatible phone/tablet, and at least 1.5 Mbps upload per camera.

Explore this need in the finder →
Is at least nine hours of parent-screen use without charging essential?

The manual states up to nine hours with the screen on under ideal conditions and up to 14 with it off; these are not independent tests.

Would an app motion notification meet your need if the parent display has no documented motion alarm?

The page lists app motion notices, but the manual does not establish motion alerting on the dedicated receiver.

A connected monitor that still has a local parent screen

The Motorola PIP1710 CONNECT is a one-camera video kit for a household that wants a dedicated handheld display at home but may also want to check the camera by phone. Its retail listing names a five-inch touchscreen, HD video, app connection and motorized camera movement. Those are useful controls, but they describe separate choices: a direct camera-to-parent-unit radio link for the room-to-room check, and a Wi-Fi path for the Motorola Nursery app. Buying a connected model does not mean the parent screen must depend on the router.

The exact U.S. listing and Shopify product record identify a single-camera PIP1710 CONNECT package, SKU 810036773690. The store page showed it available when checked on October 23, 2026. The manual family cover uses the longer names PIP1710 HD CONNECT and PIP1710-2/-3/-4 HD CONNECT; that manual naming is useful for matching instructions, but it does not turn this one-camera retail package into one of the separately named multi-camera kits.

Choose the connection for the moment you need to check

For local viewing, pair the included camera with the five-inch parent unit. The manual describes radio interference, walls and metal objects as factors that can reduce the link. Its maximum is up to 1,000 feet outdoors with clear line of sight; obstructions reduce range significantly. That is a qualified manufacturer maximum, not a measured promise for a particular house. Test reception at the intended camera position and where the caregiver will actually sit. The local plan does not need the router or internet connection, so it remains a distinct option from phone access.

For app viewing, the camera must be connected to a 2.4 GHz Wi-Fi router and internet. The manual calls for at least 1.5 Mbps of upload bandwidth per camera and a compatible Android 7.0+ or iOS 13.0+ device; setup is through a phone or tablet rather than a PC. This kit includes one camera, so its documented single-camera app plan is straightforward. A network outage may interrupt phone access, but it does not erase the separate local receiver route. Do not assume the app feed will work away from home if internet, account access or the camera's Wi-Fi connection is unavailable.

Touch controls make movement practical, with power and placement limits

The manual confirms that swiping the touchscreen pans or tilts the motorized camera head. This can make reframing a crib or nearby play area easier than reaching the camera, but it still needs a safe fixed position. The camera uses its supplied wall adapter; it is not a battery-powered camera. Keep the camera and its cord more than three feet from the child and out of reach, and follow the mounting instructions rather than routing a lead across the crib or walkway.

The parent unit uses a 2,950 mAh rechargeable battery. Motorola's English guide gives up to nine hours with the screen on and up to 14 hours with it off, in ideal conditions. The current store copy also uses a general “up to 10 hours” battery claim without a screen-use condition. For a strict screen-on minimum, the manual's nine-hour figure is the relevant, more specific published statement; it remains an ideal-condition claim, not an independent test or guaranteed age-of-battery performance. The guide says the battery is not user-replaceable and advises contacting support. Its screen-off timer leaves audio available, which can stretch a quiet listening routine without promising all-night video.

Two-room extras are not part of this one-camera box

The product record's exact SKU is the one-camera kit. A family manual can describe pairing multiple camera units, split-screen and patrol modes, but those capabilities do not add a second camera to this package. If two pictures need to appear together, the separately listed PIP1710-2 CONNECT is the documented two-camera choice: its exact listing identifies two cameras and the manual describes a parent-unit split screen. The manual does not say that split view carries two rooms' sound simultaneously. Nor does it establish two app pictures at once, so do not transfer the receiver's split-screen ability to the phone path.

The product page lists motion, sound and temperature app notifications. The guide explains temperature reading and alerts and treats them as room information, not a medical measure. A phone notification is not the same as a documented motion alarm on the parent display. The PIP1710 manual also offers optional BeyondCry insights through the Motorola Bebé app and a Zoundream account. The first month is free after activation, then subscription terms apply. The guide explicitly says interpretations can be wrong and are not medical advice; use them only as optional prompts, never as diagnosis or a substitute for an adult's judgement.

Who should choose it, and what to select in the finder

Choose the PIP1710 CONNECT if a single nursery, a large touch display, remote pan/tilt, and both local and phone access fit your routine. Select video, one room, and a dedicated screen for the router-independent parent-unit arrangement; choose phone access only if app viewing away from home is essential and the Wi-Fi requirements are acceptable. Leave the two-room and audio questions open unless a multi-camera kit is in scope. This exact package is not a match for a two-camera minimum.

Compare the PIP1710-2 CONNECT if you need two included cameras and a simultaneous local split picture. Compare the earlier PIP1610 HD CONNECT if you want a similar local-plus-app design but do not require the newer touchscreen and cry-translation feature; its display and manual details differ. A single camera is simpler if the second room is not part of the actual requirement. None of these monitors replaces responsible adult supervision or safe-sleep practice, and no room-temperature or cry feature is medical monitoring.
