Your needs, this model
Does it fit your priorities?
Does a direct parent touchscreen fit a one-room local video plan without home Wi-Fi?
The family guide describes a direct local path and a five-inch touchscreen. This manual-name suffix is not a verified U.S. retail package.
Explore this need in the finder →Is at least 3 cameras or three live room pictures essential?
The manual lists camera positions 1–4 and family multiple-camera viewing but does not map this suffix to package count or simultaneous picture/audio capacity.
Explore this need in the finder →Would you use a local touchscreen for camera movement, talk-back and room temperature?
The V16 family guide documents touchscreen pan/tilt, Talk Back and a parent-screen temperature reading; exact U.S. retail package identity is still unknown.
Explore this need in the finder →What the PIP1710-3 label does—and does not—identify
Motorola’s PIP1710 CONNECT User Guide V16 names PIP1710-3 CONNECT alongside the base and -2/-4 family labels. That confirms a real manual-named model label and makes the shared guide useful to someone identifying an existing unit. It does not identify a separate U.S. retail SKU, what came in that suffix’s box, or whether that configuration is currently offered. Do not treat “-3” as a camera count.
In Motorola’s saved U.S. all-products catalogue snapshot from October 25, the family appears as the base PIP1710 single-camera package (SKU 810036773690) and PIP1710-2 Twin Camera package (SKU 810036774376); the -3 label is not a distinct listing in that current snapshot. The missing -3 in that dated current snapshot is not proof that a -3 package was never sold. Neither sibling’s SKU or camera count transfers to this label. This page is a careful manual reference for an owner, not a three-camera buying recommendation.
Two different viewing routines
The V16 guide describes a direct camera-to-parent-unit radio path. A caregiver can watch video on the five-inch touchscreen without configuring the home router or internet. That local route is useful when the phone app is not part of the overnight plan, but each camera itself must stay connected to its supplied AC adapter. The parent unit uses a rechargeable 2,950 mAh battery; Motorola gives up to nine hours with the screen on and up to fourteen with it off under ideal conditions. Those are conditional maximum claims, not measured guarantees for a long night, and the battery is not user replaceable.
Placement and signal matter more than the large headline distance. The guide’s “up to 300 m / 1,000 ft” is an outdoor clear-line-of-sight maximum; walls and other obstructions reduce range. Motorola also says to keep the camera and cord more than three feet from the baby and to leave space between the parent and camera units to avoid audio feedback. Route the powered camera cord where a child cannot reach it. A familiar screen and local link do not remove those setup limits or the need for responsible adult supervision.
The other routine is mobile app viewing. It needs a 2.4 GHz Wi-Fi router, internet service, a compatible phone or tablet, and at least 1.5 Mbps of upload bandwidth per camera. The V16 guide lists Android 7.0+ and iOS 13.0+ as minimums for its app setup; current app-store requirements can change, so check the device you plan to use. A phone-only preference is not the same as offline operation.
Room coverage: camera slots are not box contents
The parent screen can register camera positions one through four, select a camera and use family-guide multi-camera viewing features. The guide also describes cycling between registered cameras. It does not map PIP1710-3 to a number of cameras supplied, state the exact number of pictures shown at once, or establish simultaneous room audio in a multi-camera view. A four-slot system limit is not proof of a three-camera package or a three-room live display. If either quantity is essential, require an exact manufacturer SKU and a package contents list before buying; unknown counts should not pass a minimum.
For someone who already owns the labeled unit, the touchscreen supports motorized pan and tilt by swiping, and the camera has infrared night vision. Talk Back is useful for speaking through the parent unit, with an important tradeoff: while Talk Back is active, the parent unit cannot hear the nursery audio. The camera’s temperature sensor displays a room reading on the parent screen; the guide’s color changes above 84°F or below 57°F are an indicator, not a calibrated safety or medical measurement.
Optional app feature and the better buying comparison
The family guide describes BeyondCry cry interpretation in the app. It depends on the online service and the manual says subscriptions apply after the introductory month. These are possible interpretations, not reliable diagnoses: Motorola warns that results may be incorrect and says the feature is not a medical device. It should not decide whether this suffix is a fit or replace a caregiver’s judgment.
If your need is one verified local camera and parent screen, compare the separately identified U.S. PIP1710 single-camera kit; if you need two cameras, compare the separately identified PIP1710-2 Twin Camera package. Their listing identities are documented separately from this reference, and availability can change. Neither should be used to infer what a hypothetical -3 box contained. The -3 page is useful when matching a label to the family manual, but not when you need a guaranteed camera count, current offer, or exact package photograph.

The European PIP1710 Quick Start Guide V2 also lists the family labels, but its package illustration and UK/EU plug contents are not proof of a U.S. suffix package.
