A useful fit for

A household that wants one local nursery sound feed, a separate portable receiver, parent talk-back and a temperature readout without camera video, Wi-Fi or phone viewing.

The main tradeoff

The LCD is only for status and temperature; it does not show a baby picture. The included arrangement has one baby unit and one parent receiver. Linking one baby unit to a second parent unit does not create a second room feed. The optional loud-sound beep defaults off and has no documented threshold. The 1,000-foot / 300-metre figure is a manufacturer maximum claim, not a documented open-space test or promise through a house. Baby-unit power comes from its AC adapter; parent first-charge time is at least 16 hours.

Your needs, this model

Does it fit your priorities?

Is a local sound feed enough if you do not need a camera picture or phone viewing?

Yes. The AM24 is a one-room audio monitor with a direct local DECT link. Its 1.5-inch LCD shows status and temperature, not a camera image; requiring video or remote phone access rules it out.

Would parent talk-back and a room-temperature readout help in the same one-room audio arrangement?

Yes. The U.S. AM24 listing and exact guide document talk-back and temperature monitoring in the same parent/baby-unit system. Holding talk-back pauses listening until the button is released. This does not add video or phone access.

Does your setup need only one room’s audio, even if a second parent receiver might be useful?

Yes. The reviewed AM24 package carries one baby-unit feed to its parent receiver. Motorola says one baby unit can connect to two parent units, but that is still one room, not two audible nursery feeds.

A single-room sound monitor with an informational display

The Motorola AM24 suits a household that wants a nearby parent receiver, parent-to-baby talk-back and a temperature readout without a camera or phone app. It is an audio-only monitor using a local DECT link. Its 1.5-inch black-and-white LCD with orange backlight is a status display—not a small video screen. If you need to see the room, check the Infant Optics DXR-8 family or a local video system such as VTech’s VM819 instead.

The exact U.S. shop page uses the unusual address /products/am23, but the page title and product data identify AM24, with SKU 810036771269; Motorola’s support page independently calls it AM24 and lists the same reference number. That evidence resolves the handle mismatch without treating AM23 as a different model. The U.S. store listing was marked sold out on October 23, 2026. That is a dated availability observation, not a promise about later stock or a claim that another retailer has it.

One baby unit can link to two parent receivers—but that is still one room

The U.S. package shown on the listing contains one baby unit and one parent receiver. Motorola says a baby unit can connect to two parent units, which can help if two caregivers want separate receivers. It does not mean two nursery units are included, nor does it establish two-room audio. The reviewed operating arrangement carries one nursery’s sound to a parent receiver. If two rooms must remain audible at once, the PIP15-2 MULTI is a different Motorola audio kit: its exact listing includes two baby units, and its manual documents an all-units mode. If you need pictures from two rooms, look to a system whose exact configuration supports both pictures and simultaneous sound.

The parent screen can display temperature and connection or battery status, while the audio link remains the core function. That split is useful if you want more information than a bare speaker receiver but do not need to watch a child. It is not a motion sensor or a medical temperature instrument, and the manufacturer does not document a temperature alert threshold for this model. The optional sound alert is a separate convenience: the guide says the parent unit can beep when the baby unit detects a loud sound, and the default is off. The guide does not publish a threshold, so do not choose the AM24 expecting a precise sound-level trigger or movement alert.

Talk-back and audio controls have a practical limit

Press and hold the talk-back button to speak through the baby unit. The manual explicitly says you cannot hear the nursery while holding that control; release it to resume listening. That is a useful way to answer a sound from the parent unit, but not a simultaneous two-way conversation. The speaker volume has five levels or can be turned off. If you mute it, the optional alert can provide a beep when loud sound is detected, but the alert must be enabled and its triggering level is not specified.

Room-temperature monitoring distinguishes AM24 from the basic Motorola AM21. The AM21 is the simpler audio link, without a documented parent-unit readout or talk-back. The PIP11 also adds talk-back and temperature information, as well as night-light and lullaby controls; AM24 does not list those soothing features. PIP12 TRAVEL emphasizes portability and includes a travel pouch, while this model’s clearest extra is its small display. These are genuine differences in routine, not reasons to assume every monitor’s LCD shows video.

Charge the parent receiver, keep the nursery unit plugged in

AM24 includes a rechargeable 2.4-volt, 750-mAh NiMH parent-unit pack. Motorola’s guide calls for a continuous initial charge of at least 16 hours. Under ideal conditions it estimates up to 10 hours of use or 15 hours in standby from a charge; these are manufacturer figures, not measured results, and battery age or use can change them. The parent pack is replaceable, but use only the specified replacement type and the supplied adapters. The baby unit’s setup instructions require its adapter to be connected to mains power, so plan for an outlet in the nursery.

The listing advertises up to 1,000 feet (300 metres), but the manual does not supply a numeric line-of-sight test protocol. It warns that environmental conditions, metal objects, walls, reinforced concrete, televisions, computers, phones and other electrical equipment can reduce the radio signal. Treat the figure as a manufacturer maximum, not a distance the monitor will necessarily reach in a particular home. Test the link from the places you will use the receiver. Keep cords out of the cot and beyond a child’s reach; Motorola describes a monitor as an aid, not a substitute for responsible adult supervision.

Who should choose AM24

AM24 is a reasonable fit when your essential need is one room’s sound, you want local operation without Wi-Fi, and talk-back plus a temperature readout are useful. The status LCD offers information without adding a camera. It is not a fit for video, phone access away from home, two nursery feeds, a documented open-space range minimum, a motion alert, or a required loud-sound threshold. A second parent receiver can share one baby-unit feed; it does not turn this into a two-room kit.

Compare the AM21 for a simpler one-way receiver, PIP11 for its night light and lullabies, PIP12 TRAVEL for its pouch, and PIP15-2 MULTI for two-room sound. Before purchase, check the exact kit and support materials: the common AM24/AM24-2 manual family also refers to a dual-parent package, but the current U.S. AM24 listing and image reviewed here establish the one-parent standard kit only. I have not treated AM24-2 as the same retail package.
